Family Secret Santa made easy

Big family gatherings get cheaper and calmer when everyone buys one good gift instead of many small ones.

Set it up in five minutes

  1. List everyone taking part on the generator.
  2. Add couples and households as exclusions so partners don't draw each other.
  3. Set the budget and the exchange date.
  4. Send each person their link by WhatsApp, text or email.

Kids and teens

Run a separate kids-only draw with a smaller budget, or let parents help kids under 10 shop. Older teens usually enjoy being part of the adult draw.

Avoid last year's pairings

If someone drew the same person last year, add that pair as an exclusion this year.

Example: three households, 9 people

The Garcias (Ana, Luis and their son Mateo, 15), the Parks (Ji-woo and Min) and the Lees (Grace, Tom, and their parents Helen and David). The organizer adds exclusions so partners don't draw each other (Ana–Luis, Ji-woo–Min, Grace–Tom, Helen–David), sets a $40 limit and posts each private link in the family chat, one by one. Mateo joins the adult draw; younger cousins could run a separate kids' draw at $15.

Questions

How do I stop couples drawing each other?

Add each couple as an exclusion pair. The draw never assigns them to each other, in either direction.

Can family members who live far away join?

Yes. Everyone gets an online link, and the wishlist note can include a shipping address.

Should we exclude whole households or just couples?

Couples are the common minimum. Excluding everyone in the same household is also possible, but the more rules you add, the fewer valid draws exist. If it becomes impossible, the generator tells you.

How do kids take part without a phone?

A parent opens the private link with them, or the organizer prints the cards with each link.
